STOPTECH STORMS PODIUMS AT UTAH GRAND PRIX
AS SOFRONAS TAKES WORLD CHALLENGE LEAD

Los Angeles (May 1, 2011) – James Sofronas of GMG Racing grabbed his fourth GT class podium finish in four races to earn the overall lead in the World Challenge Drivers Championship at the Utah Grand Prix on StopTech brakes. Meanwhile StopTech equipped cars took all three Touring class podium spots with a victory from Povoledo with K-Pac Racing. StopTech CEO Dino Crescentini also scored the race's fastest lap in the StopTech Porsche before being sidelined with mechanical issues.

The No. 14 GMG Porsche 911 GT3 piloted by Sofronas ran with the front of the pack for the entire race on the long and windy 24-turn, 4.5 mile road course after the prior day's qualifying runs were cancelled due to snow. The performance was a testament to the power of capitalizing on braking zones as he held his own, and the lead for much of the race, against cars boasting more power to secure his third consecutive second-place finish and enough points to take the top series spot overall in the series.

"The StopTech brakes gave me the edge I needed once again," admitted Sofronas. "I'm not going to win a drag race but I can fly into the corners to remain competitive." Sofronas takes over the Drivers’ Championship lead 466 points, putting him ahead by 49 points. The strong driving performances by Sofronas and other Porsche drivers this season including Crescentini has also given Porsche a commanding lead in the Manufacturers' Championship.

StopTech-equipped cars completely dominated the Touring class this weekend with Aaron Povoledo capturing his first World Challenge win in the No. 88 K-Pax Racing Volvo C30 from a 5th place start. Povoledo pulled out to a 2.282 second margin of victory and turned the race’s fastest Touring Car lap in a time of 2:06.043 (87.056 mph). “That was one of the toughest, most exciting, most taxing races I’ve been in in many years,” Povoledo said. Five of the top six Touring class finishers ran on StopTech equipment.
