Los Angeles (March 29, 2011) – A trio of Porsches equipped with StopTech brakes made their mark on the opening weekend of the 2011 World Challenge racing season by landing 5 of the 6 GT Class podium finishes during two races on the Streets of St. Petersburg. This included two first place finishes by Patrick Long in the No. 45 Privacy Star/Entrust Porsche 911 GT3, a second place finish by Centric Parts CEO Dino Crescentini in his No. 4 Centric Parts/StopTech/GMG Porsche 911 GT3 and two more podiums earned by James Sofronas in the  No. 14 GMG Porsche 911 GT3.
Long, Sofronas and Crescentini now hold the top three spots of the GT Drivers’ Championship. The trio of StopTech equipped Porsches also handed Porsche a firm grip on the Manufacturers’ Championship. The Touring Car class bore fruit as well with a Round Two win on Sunday at the hands of Tristan Herbert in his No. 33 Brimtek Motorsports Volkswagen GTI sporting StopTech brakes.

Even more icing on the racing cake came for Centric Parts from StopTech's sister division as Lawson Aschenbach piloted his #71 Honda Civic Si Coupe to a Touring Class victory in the first race and a second place finish in Round Two on Power Slot rotors.
"The World Challenge series is something that Centric Parts and its performance-focused divisions, StopTech and Power Slot, look to as a proving ground for our innovations in braking technology for production based performance and racing vehicles," noted Crescentini, who was running fifth before deftly shooting past Randy Pobst and teammate Sofronas on a post-accident restart to earn prime position to finish second.
"The successes of this weekend join the many from prior seasons to let us know we continue to head in the right direction in terms of research, development and production," Crescentini added.  The 2011 season is the first season for StopTech as the Official Brake System of the World Challenge Championships.
The hero of the weekend on the 1.8 mile, 14-turn temporary street course used for both races in St. Petersburg was Patrick Long with his back to back victories. Long, an accomplished sports car racing veteran but making just his second career World Challenge appearance, started on the pole for the first race in his No. 45 TruSpeed/Privacy Star/Entrust Porsche 911 GT3 and battled early in the race with defending GT class champion, and early leader, Randy Pobst, Mike Skeen and James Sofronas. Some fancy braking behind another car's spinout allowed Long to miss the fray by inches and drive on to a 4.110-second victory on Saturday. With Crescentini coming in second and Sofronas coming in third, StopTech populated the entire podium.
Long doubled down on Sunday averaging a blistering 67.890 mph over the 32-lap race with StopTech brakes. He started second on the grid and played cat and mouse with others until an 11th lap restart to clear an accident allowed Sofronas and Long both to pull away from the rest of the field on the restart. Sofronas, also on StopTech brakes, opened a small gap that Long closed patiently as he worked through the traffic of the 46-car field on the tight street circuit. Long slipped past Sofronas in traffic with three laps to go as the two held on to a one-two finish.
This weekend's races will be broadcast Saturday, April 9, at 4:30 p.m. EST on Versus or can be viewed now  at The next stop in the exciting World Challenge Championships will be presented by StopTech at the Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach, April 15-17.
