BUTTONWILLOW, CALIF. (April 2010) – The StopTech Mitsubishi Evo X, the newest edition to Team StopTech, made a stellar debut by winning the Street AWD class and clocking the fastest overall Street lap at the 1st Redline Time Attack of 2010 at Buttonwillow. The victory was fueled not only by StopTech brakes, but also by driver Stephen Ruiz, the talented son of StopTech's Director of Engineering.
Team StopTech, which is not an actual race team, consists of select production based race cars from the Tri-Point Motorsports, GMG Racing and Turner Motorsport teams competing on StopTech performance brakes in the Grand-Am Koni Sports Car Challenge Series and the SCCA Pro Racing World Challenge Series. In 2010, select StopTech-equipped vehicles from the Redline Time Attack series have joined Team StopTech.
Unlike the other series participated in by Team StopTech, Time Attack does not involve head-to-head racing. Each car is given two rounds and measured how fast it can complete a timed lap with a rolling start on a wide open track for full-throttle driving.
"Without the worry of other cars on the track, I'm free to dive into each turn as fast as I want to from any angle," pointed out driver Stephen Ruiz after his Street AWD class victory at Buttonwillow that clocked the event's fastest overall Street lap time of 1:57.591. "That's when the brakes really come into play, and the StopTech brakes let me go deep into the turns and shave off the time I needed to finish fastest."
Ruiz secured his victory with less than a second over the next closest time.  The StopTech Mitsubishi Evo X battled mechanical issues during both rounds of the event. However all it took was one successful lap in round 2 to grab the overall Street Tire Class and Street Tire AWD victories.
The season opening victory adds one to the count for Team StopTech's 2010 "Podium or Pole Position" season. The team now has secured four podium visits or pole-position earning qualifying runs thanks to a pair of podium visits by James Sofronas and a first place finish for StopTech CEO Dino Crescentini during the first two rounds of the SCCA World Challenge Series.
StopTech Big Brake Kits helped Team StopTech land over 25 podium visits or pole position starts in 2009. All StopTech Big Brake Kits provide shorter stopping distances, better brake modulation, firmer pedal feel and less brake fade resulting in stronger, more reliable performance on and off the track.
Stephen Ruiz gets behind the wheel of the StopTech Mitsubishi Evo X again at Las Vegas Motor Speedway on April 23-25. He will miss the Redline Time Attack Series when it visits the New Jersey Motorsports Park on April 10-11, 2010. You can follow the entire Time Attack season at and keep track of the rest of Team StopTech at
