ST. PETERSBURG, FLA. (March 2010) – Dino Crescentini, founder and CEO of StopTech, took the checkered flag in St. Petersburg, Florida, for his third career SCCA GT World Challenge series victory. His GMG Racing teammate, James Sofronas, came in second also on StopTech brakes, to deliver a one-two punch from Team StopTech in Round 2 of the series.
"The start was really scary for me because the launch control wasn’t working and I had to do it manually,” said Crescentini. "The car was so beautifully set up by the guys at GMG." Crescentini won the race driving his No. 4 Centric Parts/Stoptech/GMG Porsche 911 GT3, which is a 2010 model cup car new for this season equipped with StopTech's track only Trophy Big Brake Kit. He averaged 66.764 mph in the race slowed by a pair of caution periods and limited to 50 minutes.
“It’s tough to pass here and you have to take advantage of every opportunity," said Sofronas of the track, which hosted both Round 1 and Round 2 of the SCCA GT World Challenge series over the weekend. In addition to taking second in the second round, Sofronas visited the podium with a third place finish in the season opener in his No. 14 Global Motorsports Group Porsche 911 GT3.  The pair of podium finishes place him atop the Championship standings with 210 points. The race will air on Versus HD on Saturday, April 18 at 2 p.m. EDT.
The last SCCA victory for Crescentini came in the middle of the 2009 season when the brake company CEO took the checkered flag at Watkins Glen, again sharing the podium with Sofronas, who came in third.  StopTech big brake kits helped Team StopTech land over 25 podium visits or pole position starts in 2009. Team StopTech, which is not an actual race team, consists of the select production based race cars from the Tri-Point Motorsports, GMG Racing and Turner Motorsport teams competing on StopTech performance brakes in the Grand-Am Koni Sports Car Challenge Series and the SCCA Pro Racing World Challenge Series as well as select StopTech-equipped vehicles participating in the Time Attack series.
