Los Angeles (August 2009) – James Sofronas took the checkered flag for his second victory of the year at the 2009 SCCA Pro Racing SPEED GT World Challenge season finale in Monterey, California. His stellar performance in the No. 14 Global Motorsports Group Porsche 911 GT3 equipped with StopTech Trophy brakes also handed Porsche the 2009 World Challenge GT Manufacturers' Championship.
The 28-lap, 62.664-mile victory was the third career SCCA win for Sofronas, who also earned the checkered flag at the SCCA stop at the Long Beach Grand Prix earlier this season. This time he averaged 82.342 mph and set the Débaufré Fastest Lap of the Race of 1:30.919 (88.615 mph) in the process. It was also the eighth World Challenge GT Manufacturers’ Championship for Porsche and their second in a row.

He went on to win on StopTech Trophy Brakes and handed Porsche their 2nd Manufacturers' Championship in a row. (Weber Photo)“Winning the Manufacturers’ Championship for Porsche was a big one because of my business being focused on Porsche tuning,” commented Sofronas. “That was big to help them clinch that for the second year in-a-row.”  The race will air on SPEED, November 3 at 2 p.m. (ET).
Sofronas muscled his way through drama in the qualifying round a day before the October 11th race at Laguna Seca Raceway. Not satisfied with his initial run, Sofronas went back to the paddock to add fuel for another, forfeiting his times up to that point. With approximately five minutes remaining, he returned to the track and was able to turn a 1:29.891 (89.628 mph) lap —good enough for fourth and faster than his previous best.
Sofronas ran his GMG Porsche 911 GT3 on StopTech’s new Trophy Brake System for most of the season, making the swap before his big win in Long Beach earlier in the year. Trophy Big Brake Kits feature ultra-lightweight racing calipers in four- or six-piston configurations providing a significant weight reduction without sacrificing stiffness or performance. Full floating versions of StopTech’s patented AeroRotor/AeroHat two-piece rotors eliminate pad knock-back and increase cooling airflow for consistent performance and pedal feedback under the unique combination of hard cornering and braking found on the track.
