Los Angeles (June 9, 2009) – Turner Motorsport scored a pair of podium finishes at Watkins Glen for the second Grand-Am KONI Challenge race in a row, claiming second and third place in wild driving conditions on StopTech brakes after earning a pole position start with a record run for Round 6 of the series.
The successful weekend marked the latest in a stellar season for Turner Motorsport and further fueled Team StopTech’s string of “podium or pole position” performances. Team StopTech, which is itself not an actual race team, consists of the select production based race cars from the Tri-Point Motorsports, GMG Racing and Turner Motorsport teams competing on StopTech performance brakes in the Grand-Am Koni Sports Car Challenge Series and the SCCA Pro Racing SPEED World Challenge Series.
Turner Motorsport scores 2nd and 3rd on StopTech-equipped BMW M3s at Round 6 of the KONI Challenge series at Watkins GlenDriver Matt Bell piloted the #96 StopTech BMW M3 to a pole position start for the fourth time this season with a fast lap of 2:04:576, breaking the previous track record set two seasons ago.   He held his starting lead through the first 5 laps and was in second when he handed the wheel to
Bill Auberlen in the pits under a yellow flag. During the same caution, teammate Chris Gleason turned the #97 Turner BMW M3 in 7th place over to Joey Hand.
Both Auberlen and Hand lapped close to each other for the rest of the race through heavy traffic and perpetually changing track conditions into the front pack. Auberlen managed to get around Hand and nab a second place finish, while Hand finished just behind him in third.
“Turner Motorsport has been on a real tear with dual podiums this round at Watkins Glen, two more last round at Lime Rock, and a history making win at Laguna Seca before that,” noted Dan Lelchuk, president of Centric Parts which is the parent company of StopTech.  “It’s always a thrill to see StopTech brakes prove themselves in real hardcore race situations like these.”
Other recent successes for Team StopTech include James Sofronas guiding his Porsche GT3 to victory for GMG Racing on StopTech brakes at the Toyota Long Beach Grand Prix and Jason Saini taking a first place for Tri-Point Motorsports’ at the SPEED World Challenge Touring Car round in New Jersey with his StopTech-equipped MAZDA6.
