Los Angeles (September 4, 2008) – While many cars in the SCCA Pro Racing SPEED GT Championship Series feature StopTech brakes, only one is equipped with StopTech’s top executive. This weekend Dino Crescentini qualified for his highest starting position in Round Eight of the series at the Detroit Belle Isle Grand Prix. Not just a driver, Crescentini is the CEO of Centric Parts, and co-founder of StopTech, its ultra performance division which has become a leading manufacturer, supplier and innovator of world class brake components and brake systems for production-based race cars and high performance vehicles on the street and track.

Crescentini qualified his StopTech equipped Porsche 911 GT3 for a fourth place start on the 2.07-mile street track with a 1:31.298 lap, just 0.06 seconds short of earning third and only 0.324 seconds off of pole position. The achievement was Crescentini’s highest start of the series this season, which began in March in Sebring, Florida.

Crescentini parlayed the strong starting slot into a third place position during the early rounds of the race the next day. After comfortably maintaining the position for several laps, contact from Brandon Davis’ Mustang in fourth place booted Crescentini into a tire wall. Crescentini channeled the spinout into a 360 and managed to rejoin the flow, though he fell back more than 10 positions in the process. The impact caused his car to begin shedding rear body parts and soon Crescentini was called in to have his bumper removed, costing him more positions.

Despite being knocked all the way to last place, Crescentini applied an aggressive braking strategy in the remaining laps and remarkably climbed up the pack to earn a 9th place finish on a tight street course offering few passing opportunities.

“The car was still pretty good after the impact, but I was dropping parts on the track so they made me come in,” recalled Crescentini. “That delay cost me at least a couple of positions.  I had to fight my way back up to 9th with radical hard-braking passes. At least I knew for sure I could trust the brakes.”

Several cars are sporting StopTech brakes this season including Tri-Point Engineering’s MAZDA6 which carried driver Jason Saini of Fort Worth, Texas, to this year’s Rookie of the Year title.

Dino Crescentini was born in Los Angeles and began racing various motocross and desert events in 1972. He has expanded his racing resume for over 30 years, having participated in Alfa Club Races/Time Trials, Trans-Am series, Can-Am vintage car races, and many more classes of events before joining this current SPEED series. Along the way he has won several Rising Star of the Race awards and was named 2004 SPEED Touring Car Rookie of the Year. On the business side, he co-founded StopTech in 1999 in Southern California and departed a year later to start Centric Parts. The two companies joined up in 2005 when Centric purchased StopTech.
